Title: DOT line Repair on Jersey Wall With Special Crew
Purpose: Demonstrate DOT line material to District 8 Bridge Crew
Location: Jersey Wall on 91 Freeway at Green River Exit
Date: September 14, 2007

Procedure & Observations:
Ceratech personnel visited the repair to demonstrate DOT line material.

Product Placement:
The ambient temperature was about 88 degrees and the water was 74 degrees. We blew out the area with compressed air and removed all the loose concrete. Caltrans had two fiberglass forms to match the jersey wall. We anchored down the forms with ½ bolts and washers. We brushed oil on the forms as a release agent. We placed the truck right next to the repair and put the shoot into the form. We mixed the DOT line material for 5 minutes and added an extra quart of water to get a higher slump. We mixed 7 units of material at a time. After the 5 minutes we dumped the material down the shoot and poured it into the form. We had 15 minutes of working time. We used a vibrator to condense the material and help bond the layers. It took 22 units of material to finish the repair. We waited 30 minutes after the last mix and stripped the forms. We used one unit of VR to repair one air pocket at the end of the repair. As soon as we cleaned the tools one of the workers started painting the repair to match the jersey wall.

Conclusion:
The repair took 2 ½ hours to complete. Caltrans liked how the material performed. The Bridge Supervisor said we saved him one day. By using DOT line material he can strip his forms the same day. He said with all his other concrete materials he has to wait a full day before he can strip the forms. The other point he said was the fact that the DOT line was a turn-key material and he did not need to bring out additional rock. The other application he wanted to use the material on was to do a tombstone repair before a bridge deck.
